As payroll Professionals, we know the importance of the Form W-4. It is a required IRS form as well as the foundation for the taxation of an employee’s paycheck. There could be severe consequences to the company and the employee if the form is handled incorrectly. In properly withholding from the employee’s gross wages it could cause employees and employers to be subject to under withholding penalties and affect the payroll customer service or employee trust in the payroll department. Just think, this could lead to costly expenditures of budget resources and time to correct the errors.

As payroll professionals we deal with constant questions when processing the forms almost daily in a payroll department. What makes the form valid? If the form is invalid what do we do to correct the problem? What does it mean when the employee check the box on Line 2c? If the employee completed Step 4 how is this applied to income tax withholding calculation? Questions like these and more must be answered to process the form completely and correctly.

During this session we will go over the ins and outs of the 2022 Form W-4. This includes the requirements for completing the form properly. We will cover examples of calculating income tax withholding. Along with discussions on how to handle calculating income tax withholding using 2019 or earlier form. We will also look at the best practices for processing the forms more efficiently within the payroll department

Welcome to the Charlotte Chapter of the American Payroll Association!

We strive to provide the most current information possible to make your payroll efforts more efficient and precise. Please enjoy your visit and come back often, as information is always being added.

History: The Charlotte Chapter APA was founded in July,1995. We currently enjoy a membership of over 300 payroll professionals from Charlotte and the surrounding areas representing organizations of a wide variety of sizes and types.

Our Chapter meetings take place in Charlotte from February through October. Meetings are typically held on the third Thursday or Friday of the month. Our meeting agenda includes speakers on a wide variety of payroll-related topics, as well as other topics of general interest to the payroll professional, which provides you with an opportunity to earn recertification credit hours (RCH's). Our goal is to offer members 28 RCHs per year. Vendors are also invited to participate, allowing them to offer their payroll-related products and services. Please check our calendar for updates and meeting information.

Special Events: Study groups are held twice a year in accordance with the testing schedule with APA. We celebrate National Payroll Week the first Thursday after Labor Day in September and there is an All Day Education Meeting in August.
